Tips for Traveling by Plane with Kiddos

These are some of the things I try to do to ensure that our travels with the boys are as smooth as possible are:

  • Have everyone in the party use  a carryon and a backpack or big purse.   This way you avoid checking in your luggage and perhaps even the nightmare of it being lost.
  • Pack a travel size pack of Clorox Wipes.  With so many people coming on board, I feel there are germs and areas that were possibly missed in the quick cleaning airlines do.  Since I am traveling with the boys.  First things is to use Clorox wipes to disinfect the armrest and the table trays.
  • Pack Jellybeans.  For my boys, the “go to” candy to avoid ears popping is eating a few jellybeans during take off and landing.
  • Have a small blanket or shawl that can easily be draped over the sleeping kiddos.  It has to be small enough that it must fold nicely into the backpack.
  • Carry an empty water bottle.  This way after the security checkpoint, I can fill it easily.  Many airports have the water bottle filling stations.  This ensures avoiding to paying for an overpriced water bottle especially when the kids might only take a few sips.
  • Nap on the plane. My boys are old enough that I can doze off for a bit without having to worry about them.  I usually sit by the aisle and they are by the window.  I sleep for a bit and by the time the plane lands I find myself rested and ready for the adventures of the trip.
